There are instructional videos that give you a visual guide on how you are supposed to stand, stature is very important. You don’t have to become a statue but your base should be as solid as possible, any movement below your waist on your back swing will have an effect on your follow through. Watching professionals play golf is great, but it won’t help your swing. Getting out on the course and feeling the club in your hands is where you will find most of your inspiration. One technique to keep a solid base is to remember that you are not swinging at a moving object. Players who play baseball tend to move their feet and shift power from their front foot to their back foot in order to transfer motion. A golf swing should be a comfortable follow through with your upper body being the pendulum and your lower body being the foundation. It’s the opposite of baseball. One thing I did to improve my golf swing was to drive the golf ball while I was down on my knees, it helped to keep my hips straight, and the motion was fluid. People looked at me funny but after a while, my upper body worked with my lower body and I didn’t shift my weight. You can hire a professional teacher to give you some tips but unless they are on the course with you through the whole round it becomes a lost lesson. You can also have your swing videotaped and analyzed to see where you can improve, its state of the art and might help you see yourself in motion. Your shoulders should always follow your head and be in alignment, bend your knees a little bit so you have some bounce. Many people are challenged between using woods and irons, the same rules apply no matter which club you are gripping. Remember to keep your head down and keep looking at your ball before you look up to see where it went. The best advice I ever got that helped me improve my golf swing was not to look up before I made contact or I would just see a cruddy shot.
